 Study ESL at Algonquin College and take advantage of
being part of a dynamic college campus. ESL students have access to all the school
facilities while enjoying the beauty of Canada’s Capital City, Ottawa.
The Language Institute is located on
the main Ottawa
campus just 25 minutes from the historic parliament buildings of Canada. Algonquin offers an
exciting English as a Second Language program designed to meet the needs of International
students. Eight levels of full-time instruction (20 hours per week) allows International
students to improve their English language communication skills and/or prepare for college
or university entrance. Friendly, caring instructors provide a supportive environment for
learning. All our professors are highly trained with undergraduate degrees and TESL
certification. The program consists of classroom instruction, and independent study. On
successful completion, graduates will meet College English entrance requirements.
Additional program requirements may be necessary.
Students have full
access to the Multimedia Language Lab for independent and/or computer-assisted learning.
Language students have daily use of the Multimedia Language Centre (MMLC). This
state-of-the-art lab provides a rich collection of resources (CD-Rom, CAN 8, audio, video,
print, Internet) to help students improve their English knowledge and skills.
With over 16,000 Canadians on campus, ESL students have lots of opportunity to practice
their new language skills. ESL students are integrated on campus and have full access to
the college residence, homestay program, cafeterias, libraries, and the computer labs
which remain open 24/7. Students may also access the gym, sports facilities and the
fitness centre.
