of the All-Russia Pushkin Museum, the largest literary museum of Russia.

LOCATION AND FACILITIES
 The
Derzhavin Institute is located the historical central part of St. Petersburg, in the 18th
century mansion that belonged to Gavrila Romanovich Derzhavin, the major Russian poet of
that time, and the most famous statesman, the secretary of state of Empress Catherine the
Great.
From 1791 to 1816, this house was the center of the literary life of St. Petersburg.
All the famous writers, artists, and musicians of that epoch visited it. The memorial
interiors of the palace display furniture, art, and works of decorative and applied art of
the 18th century. The literary exposition features books, manuscripts, and portraits of
writers.
In 1811, the largest Grand Hall of the mansion hosted Discussions for Lovers of Russian
Literature, the famous literary society of the beginning of the 19th century. Its
participants read their writings and discussed issues of language and literature. Up to
two hundred people would participate in the meetings: writers, uniformed statesmen, and
elegantly attired ladies. The hall would be lit with hundreds of candles. Today, the
interior has been completely restored: marble columns, large gilded chandeliers, mirrors,
armchairs set along the walls, and a large table in the center, covered with a green
cloth. |

PROGRAMS
 The Russian
Language Center offers courses all year round for students of all levels (minimum
admission age is 16). The maximum class size is 10 students per class during the
high season (June-September) with an average of 5 students during the rest period.
Group Courses start every Monday throughout the year, exept
the beginners, starting the first Monday of each month. With an exception for the
beginners all students take an oral and written placement test on the first day of the
course in order to be placed in the appropriate level.
All materials used in the courses are supplied by the
Institute and are included in the programme price. The students receive his/her course
book appropriate to the level of Russian being studied. If a student's level improves
substantially, he/she may be transferred to the next higher level. In this case, the
student pays for this new/additional course-book.
Every student is given a certificate attesting to the student's success in the given
course, as well as the level of knowledge of the language achieved. After finishing the
academic course you are welcomed to take an official TORFL test
The Standard Course
The Standard Course of Russian focuses on integrating all the skills of speaking,
listening, reading and writing. The emphasis is on communication skills, increasing the
students` vocabulary and improvement of their ability to speak Russian.
This course is 20 classes of 45 minutes a week
Classes are held Monday to Friday from 9.30 to 13.00
The Intensive Course
This is the 20-lessons Standard Course in the morning, plus two extra lessons
every day in the afternoon. Morning session focuses on integrating all the skills of
speaking, listening, reading and writing. The emphasis is on communication skills. The
afternoon extra session focuses on a particular area of Russian grammar and vocabulary
skills.
This course is 30 classes of 45 minutes a week
Classes are held Monday to Friday from 9.30 to 13.00 for the Group courses; additional
lessons for the Intensive courses - from 14.00 to 16.00; Evening classes from 18.30 to
21.00.
One to One Course for 15,20,30 or 40
classes per week ( 45-minutee each ). Individual lessons can also be
taken as a supplement to another course.
The Business Russian Course. This course
is for students of Intermediate Level and higher, 18 years and up who wish to master
Russian language for Business purposes.
Exam Preparatory Course to prepare for the
standard national tests of Russian as a foreign language (TORFL). The tests will reveal
and assess your language skills. TORFL is certified by the Ministry of Education of the
Russian Federation. The exams are taken in special regional exam centers.

ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
 Derzhavin institute
organizes accommodation in host families, guest house, hotels and apartments of all
categories.
HOST FAMILY
ACCOMMODATION
Host family accommodation means that you will live in a common Russian family, which was
carefully selected by the
Institute, in a single room with half-board. Living room, kitchen and bathroom you will
share with your family. You will have an access to telephone but have to use your own
telephone card.
All Host Family accommodation types include: half board (continental breakfast and evening
meals), bed linen, laundry once per week.
Accommodation in Host Families is
calculated from Sunday to Sunday and arrival day should be Sunday. For students arriving
earlier than Sunday or leaving later than Sunday following additional fees apply: 30€
per day.
Institut Derzhavin offers the
following accommodation options:
Standard Type Accommodation (Homestay) includes living in a room in a 2/3-room-flat. As
there is only one bathroom and toilet/WC in flat, you will share it with the host family.
The houses situated in the historic center of the city usually have very little bathrooms.
Price per week:
Half-board: Single room is 185€ / shared
room is 170€
Breakfast: Single room is 150€ / shared room is 135€
Guest House Accommodation. If you are rather independent person you
may choose the guest house accommodation. This is accommodation in a large flat with a
host or a housekeeper living in the flat. All rooms (usually multi-bedded), bathroom (one
or two depending on the flat size) and kitchen are shared. Students will be responsible
for their own meals. The bed linen is provided.

shared room is 33€
Other options include accommodation in a shared flat or in the
Museum's Guests Hotel. Shared flat:

Museum´s Guest Hotel: Price per night: single room 50€ /

RENTING A FLAT
Students who wish to live on their own or
share it with another students can rent an apartment with the help of the Institute. Prices are provided upon request.
Please note:
1. Derzhavin Institute has no flat at its own disposal. The Institute collaborates with a
real estate to provide students with a studio/apartment for rent.
2. Derzhavin Institute refers an agent/a student to the web-site of the real estate agency
where you can look through the offered for rent studios/apartments, learn the prices and
choose the one that suits you and inform the Institute. Derzhavin Institute will book the
chosen accommodation. During the high season you should book an apartment at least one
month beforehand.
3. Responsibility for rented studios/apartments' quality lies on the real estate agency
