Founded in 1962, the English Language Centre (ELC) is a non-profitmaking charitable educational foundation, dedicated to provide quality English language teaching to international students, who come from more than 40 countries.  The centre provides up-to-date facilities in a historic setting, in Brighton & Hove, one of the UK's finest cities, which offers a great environment to study in and is only 80 kilometres from London.  ELC offers a friendly learning environment, highly experienced and professional teachers, mixed-nationality classes, all coursebooks and teaching materials, a full programme of social activities and excursions, a student lounge, with food and refreshment facilities, free WLAN throughout the main buildings, a spacious Self-Study Centre with computerised language laboratory, free internet access and connections for laptops, a free advice service to help with university application, an Accommodation Department to help the students find the right place to stay, and much more.

Teachers employ friendly and supportive methods of teaching in courses open all year round to all levels.  General English courses are available for 25 or 30 lessons per week, and can be combined with work experience, exam skills preparation and one-to-one sessions.  There are also IELTS preparation courses, a study year programme and a work experience programme.  Students are placed in their right level according to a previous placement test, at least one lesson a week is in the computer laboratory and all students receive a certificate at the end of the course.  

In addition to regular language courses, ELC offers special courses such as Examination Courses (Cambridge exams, IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, LCCI English for Business Examinations, and others), University Preparation Course (including guidance on academic courses, advise on entry requirements and procedures, visits to institutions, etc.), Course for Teachers of English, English for Business, English for Engineers, Combined General English and Executive English, Summer Courses and tailor-made courses.

Regarding accommodation, ELC offers a homestay option, which provides the students with the perfect opportunity to experience English life and to practise using English in everyday situations, and there are also special discounted rates for ELC students in different hotels in Brighton, if hotel accommodation is prefered.
