The New School
English school in New York, USA
The New School is located in Greenwich Village, a historic residential area of
Manhattan, which is known for its brownstone houses, tree-lined streets, cafés,
restaurants, shops, theaters, and night life. It supports an exciting mix of intellectual,
artistic, and commercial activity, while retaining a safe and charming residential
character.
Most classes are held in the Alvin Johnson
Building at 66 West 12th Street, designed by noted architect Joseph Urban in 1930. The
student body of The New School consists of people of diverse ages, professions, and
cultural backgrounds. This guarantees lively intellectual and social interactions.
The New School offers courses in English as
second/foreign language at low-intermediate (Level 3) to advanced (Level 6) levels.
Currently, it does not offer instruction to true beginners. A short placement test is
required of all students. There are 12 weeks of ESL every term and there are other
specific English programs, like English for Professional Purposes, Certificate in Teaching
English, English Language Skills and more.
