Studies in American Language, known as SAL, opened as the intensive English language program at San José State University in 1975. Since then, thousands of international students from around the world have joined SAL's small classes to improve their English skills for academic, professional, or personal reasons. The academic advisors guide students through applications and transfers to San José State and our local community colleges. The international office staff provides full orientation and support to international students on campus and in the community. The programs fit students' needs and their schedule. They can choose from academic, business, or cultural programs to reach their goals.
