Pacific International Academy (PIA) offers
Academic English courses designed to help international students be successful in
undergraduate and graduate programs at Marylhurst University. Short-term programs combine
English language training with social and cultural activities as well as excursions to the
region’s points of interest. Its Short-Term programs offer a blend of studies and
sightseeing. Often these programs are very popular for students on holiday or summer
vacation. Its location is excelent to explore the Northwest. Besides, PIA offers a
fantastic homestay program, a full calendar of cultural and social activities and it is
Official MELAB testing site and it is located 10 minutes from Portland.
PIA has five core levels of ESL classes. In
each level, students will attend classes in reading, writing, grammar and
speaking/listening. Classes are held Monday through Friday with a total of 20 hours of
class per week. Within these classes, students will not only improve their English but
also have a chance to study cultural topics, computer skills, and other points of special
interest. PIA also has the Conversation Partner Program. Designed to help students improve
their listening and conversational skills, this program pairs students with native
speakers.
Housing Referral: All students have the
opportunity to live with an American host family. Each family is carefully selected to
provide a supportive and caring environment for the student. In this setting, students
have the opportunity to practice relevant English skills and learn more about American
culture.
