Established in the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1978, the Tutorium in Intensive English serves English language students with its Intensive English Program. It also serves Chicagoland professionals having more advanced English skills with the English for International Professionals Series and with custom courses.

Intensive English Program has 5 levels of instruction, beginning to advanced, 20-25 hours of class per week, 12 students in an average class, 120-150 students each session, more than 15 special topic elective classes each session and state-of-the art computer laboratories.

To help with university admission, each session, the Tutorium offers the Institutional Testing Program (ITP) TOEFL (there is also a TOEFL iBT preparation course available), College admission seminars and Counseling and assistance with UIC undergraduate admission.

Each session, the Tutorium has special activities such as field trips and social events.

In Summer, the Tutorium offers the Chicago, Communication, and Culture program, which is a three-week educational program designed for visitors to Chicago who want to explore the city and improve their English. Participants in the program will improve their vocabulary, listening, and conversation skills through topics about Chicago's unique culture and history, such as Chicago in Film, Chicago Politics, Chicago Architecture, etc.  The program includes 12-15 hours of classroom study each week on the UIC campus. Guided visits and tours to Chicago's most popular events and attractions complete the learning experience. Optional weekend excursions can be arranged through the office.
