Established in 1908, the University of Alberta is the oldest
institution in the province. With 15 teaching faculties and an on-campus population of
35,000 students and staff, the large campus provides many opportunities and resources for
students, including services for international students at the International Centre. Its
recreational facilities include an indoor running track, indoor ice arena, swimming pools,
squash, badminton, volleyball, and tennis courts.
Founded in 1973, the English Language Program is known for
providing a high standard of instruction to students whose first language is other than
English. This standard of teaching is maintained by a team of qualified and experienced
instructional staff who use modern teaching approaches, resources, and state-of-the-art
technology - such as the ELP Multimedia Learning Centre.
The English Language Program offers a variety
of programs to meet university's students' needs, such as: Intensive Day Program, English
for Academic Purposes - EAP, Preparing for Graduate StudiesESL 550, Explore Canadian
English and English Language & Cultural Seminars.
