Spanish Language Schools in Chiapas, Mexico

Founded in 1993, the Instituto de Lenguas Jovel offers Spanish language courses in San Cristobal de las Casas, in the state of Chiapas.  The institute has a beautiful building, with gardens and fountains, right in the colonial center of the city.

Instituto Jovel offers private or small Spanish classes, with no more than five students per group.  Lessons are designed to develop linguistic competence from beginning to advanced, combining the language instruction with conversational practice and appreciation of the Mexican culture.  Teachers have been specially trained to be instructors of Spanish as a second language and all of them are native Spanish speakers.

In addition to classes, the institute offers many extra activities (language exchange, visits in town, etc.), cultural workshops on special topics (History of Mexico, Indigenous Cultures, Mexican Music, etc.), four days a week, two hours per day, and a variety of optional group tours to outlying villages and Mayan archaeological sites on weekends. 

Accommodation options offered are varied to best suit the students' preferences: Mexican host families, posadas (family-operated inns), hotels or apartments.
