AMAUTA applies an interactive, communicative and personalized teaching method in the Spanish language instruction. Free daily student activities are included in all programs (cooking, dancing, music, lectures on Peruvian Culture and History, movies, a welcome dinner) as well as all lesson materials, unlimited use of internet, an AMAUTA student discount card, a certificate and a guided tour in town during the first day.

Alll teachers are native Spanish speakers and have received a special training to teach the language to foreigners.  Spanish programs are organized at four general levels, from beginner to superior.  Classes start on Monday, when all students take a placement test to determine their level.  After finishing the course, students receive a certificate of participation.  Those who are interested in obtaining university credits, should contact their institution and AMAUTA before the course starts.

AMAUTA offers a wide range of Spanish courses, which include study of grammar, pronunciation improving, developing of writing and reading comprehension and guided conversations.  Standard courses are taught in groups, with no more than 6 students per class, in individual lessons or combining group lessons with private tuition.   There are also Spanish on Location programs, which run in the Sacred Valley of Incas or in Manu.  All groups work with two different teachers who rotate.   Regarding special courses, these include Spanish for Travelers, Super Intensive Immersion Programs (one-to-one tuition only), Quechua lessons, Inca Civilization courses, Spanish for Health Care and Social Workers, and others.  Students may also combine their Spanish instruction with excursions or volunteer programs, sports activities and adventure trips.  There are Spanish for families, kids and teenagers available too.

The AMAUTA Volunteer Work Program provides the unique opportunity to live and work in Peru. Students will experience first-hand its rich cultural diversity while cultivating a superior level of Spanish proficiency. Through the Volunteer Program, AMAUTA and the volunteers are able to make contributions to Peruvian society and to help bridge the gap between foreign visitors and native people. Participants may choose both, the field and preferred location, of their volunteer placement. Possible fields of interest include social work, education, tourism, cultural work and catering. A complete list of the 30 projects can be sent upon request.

Upon arrival, students receive an information package with preliminary information regarding the volunteer work experience. AMAUTA organizes an introductory meeting with general information about Peruvian history and culture, cultural differences. Volunteers will have the opportunity to personally discuss the appropriate placement in terms of goals, desired experiences etc. with the Volunteer Coordinator. During the placements, the weekly volunteer meetings enable volunteers to talk in general about their experiences and raise any concerns.

Accommodation options in Cusco include guest families (standard and plus packages), student flats and a guest house, all of them near to the city center.  Those who prefer other types of lodging, can arrange it by themselves.   In Manu, accommodation is offered at Pantiacolla Lodge, located in the Cultural Zone of the Manu Biosphere. In the Sacred Valley, accommodation is provided in the small village of Taray.

AMAUTA Spanish Programs include a dynamic, interesting and fun leisure agenda that is complementary to the process of learning the Spanish language, including cultural workshops, lectures, excursions and social activities.
