CCFS - Cours de Civilisation Française
de La Sorbonne

French Language School in Paris, France

The creation of the Société des Amis des Universités de Paris (SAUP) dates back to 1899.   This association, intended to develop French culture, created the Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne (CCFS) in 1919. Initially, it was primarily attended by Americans but it has developed considerably since then.  The headquarters are situated in the Sorbonne university. Nowadays, its students come from all over the world: almost 130 nationalities are represented.

The CCFS offers French language and civilisation courses throughout the year, in four sessions (spring, summer, fall and winter).   Language classes allow students to progress in learning French (grammar, verb conjugation, spelling, vocabulary, approach to literary texts, etc.).   There are from Regular Language courses to Intensive courses, Language and civilisation, Business French sessions, TCF and TCF-DAP preparation courses, Conversation classes, Phonetics, Written expression, etc.

The student must be at least 18 years old. If he/she wishes to stay longer than 3 months, must have a bachelor's degree too. The CCFS are open to all levels (absolute beginners included). The level of French of the student is determined by the CCFS as soon as his registration is complete. A compulsory written and oral French test determines its level.

The CCFS’s Welcome and Housing Service proposes its students various types of accommodation (rooms in private homes, studio flats, accommodation in hostels). Museum visits are a cultural complement to the courses. Cultural lectures are organised by the Course Director. Excursions are also organised to various sites and cultural institutions in Paris and the surrounding area.
