French Language School in Loire Valley, France
France is a small French language school run by Sylvie Reeves.
It's based in Western Loire in the historic village of Fontevraud L'Abbaye ( between
Saumur and Tours, 1h30 away from Paris by TGV). Sylvie is a French national and she was
head of the Language Centre of the Saumur Chamber of Commerce and Industry for nearly
twenty years until she decided to do her own thing and registered her small school in
Sylvie's wish is to share French quality of life with the
international francophiles who love culture, history, heritage, gastronomy and fine wines
and local savoir- faire du terroir, by offering them 101 ways to improve their
level of French, either by intensive residential courses for those whor are living abroad
or by traditional weekly classes or theme workshops for the Loire Valley residents.
Sylvie runs adult individual, semi-individual
or group classes in General French, for professional purposes or for other specific topics
in French. Sylvie strongly recommends individual classes for maximal progress.
The school is down the road from The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud.
Sylvie's classes associate art de vivre and culture. With a questionnaire at
hand, she asks specific information to a carefully selected nutshell of professionals, who
really want to make sure they remember their language course in Fontevraud as a once in a
lifetime experience: everybody at Parfurm de France strive for a convivial fruitful
exchange with visitors from all over the world... making them share the secrets of the
French cultural heritage.
Students can either stay at the hotel down the
road in B&B or at the 4 star holiday rental of the school (which is available at the
Below is a student's testimony:
"Having joined the French group of U3A in Storrington last September, as very
much a beginner, my wife and I decided that we needed to improve our French especially as
we have a holiday home in France and would like to say more than 'bonjour' to our French
'Perfum de France' operates from Sylvies home in a village called Fontevraud l'Abbaye, her house is just 150 metres from
the famous Abbey. There were lessons in the mornings followed by visits out in the
afternoon. One day it was a visit to the local artisans in the village, armed with a
questionnaire to put into practice what we had learnt in the morning. Another a tour round
the Abbey with Sylvie there to help or translate when we got stuck. Visits to Chateaus,
Caves, Troglodyte dwellings, boat trips, gourmet dinners and walking trips, with each
activity helping our French and learning about the area. All this was included in the
price with no need to use the car for the week. [...]
For our accommodation we had the choice of
a beautiful newly completed Gîté next to Sylvies house or the ' La Croix Blanche' hotel
facing the Abbey. [...]
We had a fantastic week learning French
and discovering the area. The only thing we did wrong is that we should have stayed
another week to really explore the area and practice our French. Doing an 'immersion week'
is the way to really get you progressing your French and we would have no difficulty in
recommending Sylvie as the tutor. We are already planning a refresher visit on our way
down to our holiday home next summer."
