International House Freiburg was founded as LGS Sprachkurse in 1972 and became affiliated to the International House World Organisation in 1983.   The school became the centre for Teacher Training and Teacher Development for German as a Foreign Language for the whole organisation in 1991. The majority of its teachers have been trained by the own school's staff.

In IH Freiburg both, managers and university students are offered the highest quality courses, but in different groups. Simply because of the difference in age, needs, interests, budgets etc.

The school is situated in the centre of Freiburg in a splendid neoclassical three-storey building. There are 13 classrooms, a study room, a computer room (8 PCs) with self-study software and access to E-mail and the Internet, a cafeteria,  a large terrace and parking facilities. Freiburg is small enough to allow the students to feel "at home" from their first day there, yet at the same time big enough to be international, exciting and vibrant. Freiburg has a population of around 220,000 and a history that goes back over 900 years. The old city centre still bears witness to this. The location at the foot of the Black Forest with France and Switzerland nearby makes Freiburg an ideal starting point for numerous memorable excursions. A further point in its favour is the mild climate: Freiburg is the warmest and sunniest city in Germany.
