 Established in 1998, Scuola Ulisse is located in the beautiful late baroque
centre of Catania, a seaside city on the island of Sicily. The school is in a
charming eighteenth-century street, Via Crociferi, which the locals call the city's
'lounge' for its particularly beautiful baroque churches and buildings. The school
and its classrooms are welcoming and light, and equipped with air conditioning and
internet connections for students to use.
The school offers courses for students at all levels, from
beginners to more advanced students. The teachers tailor their lessons to the needs of
each student, and create a lively atmosphere for learning. As regards class size, students
can choose between classes of 6 -10 students, smaller group classes of 3-5 students, and
personal one-to-one classes. Regarding course duration, a ‘standard’ course
lasts three weeks, while a ‘plus’ course lasts four weeks. Students’
abilities will first be assessed in a pre-course placement test.
Scuola Ulisse also offers thematic courses. Their minimum
length is two weeks, with 10 hours of lessons, but longer courses can also be arranged.
These courses are available both to groups and individual students: Business Italian,
Italian Cinema, Italian Songs, Italian Cookery and Italian and Sicilian Literature. For
students planning to take exams for the CILS or the CELI, the school also offers
personalized courses based on the skills required for each of the certificates' levels.
