The Adventure Education Center offers Spanish immersion
programs in three different locations in Costa Rica: Playa Dominical, Turrialba and
Arenal. Playa Dominical is located on Costa Rica's Central Pacific coast just 20 miles
south of Manuel Antonio National Park. It is a small coast community, with approximately
400 year round inhabitants, boasts numerous small hotels, restaurants and evening spots.
Turrialba is located on the Atlantic slope side of Costa Rica, and is known for the river
rafting activities and kayaking on the Reventazon and Pacuari rivers, for its coffee and
sugar cane plantations and other atractions. Arenal is one of the activate
volcanoes of Costa Rica. AEC is located in the center of its closest town, La
Fortuna.
AEC offers a General Spanish immersion program. Besides, it
has developed a medical Spanish program for medical students or physicians, and a separate
Spanish program for nurses. AEC also provides a teen summer camps, Spanish instruction
programs for children, and accommodations for families and groups.
AEC combines intensive, small group Spanish instruction
with afternoon and weekend activities such as Latin Dance & cooking classes, as well
as kayaking, river rafting, mountain biking and nights in the jungle. There are numerous
volunteer programs and the Medical Spanish program combines in class language lessons with
weekly visits to local clinics and hospitals.
