IPED was founded in 1984 with the objective of offering
motivational language instruction in a creative and friendly environment. It is located in
the peaceful and safe provincial town of Heredia, and provides the educationally motivated
traveler with a unique cultural and learning experience.
IPED offers a wide range of courses, such as the Regular program (20
hours a week), Survival Spanish, Medical Spanish, Spanish for
kids, Private lessons (available with flexible hours), and more. Spanish language
instruction is offered in one to 16 weeks sessions,or more, with four hours of
class-time daily (Monday through Friday).
IPED keeps group sizes small to ensure individualized attention for every student.
Groups usually consist of two or three students. The maximum group size is six students.
In addition, the institute offers varied cultural activities such as Latin dance classes,
cooking classes, language exchanges, and visits to the central market. Excursions to the
many natural wonders of Costa Rica, such as its tropical rain forests, beaches and
volcanoes are also possible. Heredia is located in the central part of
Costa Rica, 7 miles north of the capital, San José. It is a safe and pleasant town with a
university, many shops, quiet residential areas, and a bustling town center. There are
many restaurants, museums, and theaters nearby. An active and diverse night life is
available in this town and in San José.
Students who choose IPED's Homestay Program become guests of
Costa Rican families in their homes. This exposure to everyday family life in Costa Rica
will provide them with an opportunity to practice their developing skills, and may be the
most effective way to refine their Spanish skills. Students will be placed in a
comfortable home around the city of Heredia, usually within walking distance of IPED.
If the Homestay Program does not meet their needs, IPED will be happy to help them
make other living arrangements.
